IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER CHANGES

REVISED COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER POLICY 2014-2015 SCHOOL YEAR

Volunteers are an essential ingredient in the success of our schools and students. In an effort to update district policies and procedures, the School Board approved a revised Community Volunteer Policy that will go into effect at the start of the 2014-15 school year.

The major changes to the revised Community Volunteer Policy include two categories of Community Volunteers:
  • Limited Contact Volunteers - A volunteer who is in direct contact with or close proximity to school district employee while performing his/her volunteer service and there is NO time when the volunteer is alone with a student or in a secluded, isolated or remote area with a student without a school district employee being present. Limited Contact volunteers include, but are not limited to, chaperones for single day field-trips, daily classroom, library or office assistant and/or assisting with classroom or building special events.
***Complete Registration and Disclosure Statement (annually)
***Coordinated at the Individual School Buildings
  • Substantial Contact Volunteers - A volunteer who will or is reasonably likely to have direct contact with a student while performing his/her volunteer service without direct supervision by a school district employee. Direct contact time may include, but is not limited to, coaching and/or assisting with an athletic team or musical performing group, advising an extracurricular activity, chaperoning an overnight field trip or competition, and/or providing supplemental assistance to a student, without direct supervision by a school district employee.
***Complete Registration and Disclosure Statement (annually)
          ***Complete Tuberculosis Risk Assessment Questionnaire
***Required to Submit Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151 (every 4 years)

*Three Separate Clearances Paid for by the Volunteer
*Total Cost for All Three Clearances - $48.75
*All Clearances must be Received BEFORE the Volunteer Activity
*Coordinated at the District Office for the entire District
All visitors and volunteers will still be required to use the Raptor Visitor Management System upon entering each school.

If you plan to volunteer, starting with the 2014-2015 school year, it is extremely important that you fill out the necessary forms and hand them into the school office, as soon as possible.  These forms and clearances must be on file before you can volunteer within the building.  To obtain the appropriate forms and for greater detail, please visit the district’s main webpage and click on the VOLUNTEER INFORMATION button on the right side of the webpage.

"R t P" / Report to Parents Info & Tips
The National Association of Elementary School Principals provide members with a monthly parenting tip newsletter, Report to Parents or RtP. In this space periodically Evans will provide a link to the newsletter as it pertains to a subject matter and tip that might interest you as a parent of an Evans student.

This month the RtP pertains toá"Effective Homework Help".ááStudents with parents who are involved in their education are more likely to succeed and adapt well to school.á But can parents sometimes be too involved? Parents click here to access the link for some helpful tips and strategies on how to be effective in providing your child with the homework help they need without going overboard. á
